With the intricately complicated system that allows the brain to function, it’s no surprise that scientists and doctors have had difficulty diagnosing brain injuries. While the technology has grown by leaps and bounds in the last quarter century, it is still far from being able to give a clear and immediate vision of what the brain has suffered after trauma.
Dr. Erin Bigler, a clinical neurophysiologist from the University of Utah School of Medicine, is both an author and researcher who has been studying the best new technology and how to use it. His focus is on the brain pathology as he says it’s important to see how the brain creates new connections as it is unable to generate new tissue. For this, he is using CT scans in centers like REHAB.
Hopefully these developments from doctors like Bigler will shorten the path to a full understanding of how to “fix” traumatic brain injuries.
