Newsome | Melton Law Firm has been practicing law since 1989, after receiving his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Florida, Gainesville. After earning his degree, Newsome began his career as an Assistant District Attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice.
Today, Newsome heads a consumer justice law firm that represents clients in product liability, class action, and complex litigation in Florida and the United States. He has gained national recognition in state and federal courts in traumatic injury cases related to airbags, defective tires, rollovers, roof crush, seatback failure, and commercial and industrial products, as well as a wide variety of additional consumer products. Newsome has experience taking on corporate giants such as General Motors, Honda, Nissan, Ford, Chrysler, Yamaha, DuPont, and Dow.
Newsome has been awarded an AV rating—the highest rating possible—by Martindale-Hubbell. He has been twice named as one of Florida’s legal elite by Florida Trend magazine, and has been listed in the Best Lawyers in America publication. Newsome serves on the Florida Justice Association’s Board of Directors, and participates in several areas of the Academy of Trail Lawyers of America, including scientific and medical integrity and product liability.
Newsome is dedicated to educating and protecting consumers, and to that end has participated in seminars and has published dozens of articles, including in AFTL Journal and FJA Journal. He is very active with consumer advocacy groups, and participates with a network of attorneys who share information regarding trends in consumer products liability litigation.
