Newswise posted an interesting article describing a robotic arm, dubbed UMan, that researchers at the University of Massachusetts created with the special ability to “see” what it’s doing. A digital camera mounted on it allows the arm to manipulate objects much as a child would – through exploration and experimentation. This could have some incredibly useful applications for people with limited mobility due to spinal injuries or brain damage. While these ideas are still in the future, the progress towards that end is stimulating to monitor. For the whole article, click here.
