Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare Center for Pediatric Rehabilitation provides specialty rehabilitation and care for children with both brain and spinal cord injury. The center is the region’s largest pediatric rehabilitation program.
Individualized programs are designed using an interdisciplinary team, with the main focus on developing and meeting specific goals. Parents and family members are an integral part of the treatment team, which is there to assist beyond the inpatient stage with mobility and adaptive equipment needs, home or school modifications, and outpatient therapy.

A team of specialists comprising surgeons, neurosurgeons, physiatrists, and other specialists work together with the patient and family to determine the kind of treatment program that will best help the patient return to maximum independence. The clinic works with approximately 200 spinal cord injury patients per year.

Miller-Dwan Medical Center treats brain and spinal cord injury at an inpatient basis, with an emphasis on active participation of the patient. The patient, as well as his or her family, are involved in all aspects of the rehabilitation process, from making goals to monitoring progress.
Using an interdisciplinary team that focuses on individual treatment based on needs and goals, services at Miller-Dwan include physical and occupational therapy, therapeutic recreation, speech and language pathology, psychology, peer counseling, nutrition services, continence services, and patient/family education.
